Traveling to Mexico in July of 2020

Travel saw a lot of extensive changes made in a very short time frame in 2020. My team and I jumped on the opportunity to go to Mexico to see what the new processes and policies were truly like to share with you.

We all grabbed cheap air on United and partnered with Iberostar hotels and Le Blanc to go to Mexico!

We knew that we would have to wear our masks on the plane.

It was really good, in our industry, to see our flight full from Houston to Cancun! They didn’t have room to have the middle seat saved for space, but it really didn’t impact us that much on a short 2 hour flight.

When we arrived at the Cancun airport it was a little different because they only had one terminal open, and I don’t normally fly into that one. It was something new to see but they are opening up another terminal soon because traffic is increasing with flights! We got off the plane and zoomed through customs. They had social distancing dots on the ground throughout the customs and baggage claim areas. They did take your temperature via infrared scanner but you would never even notice it.

Lomas Travel Picking us up in Cancun

I will say that it was nice to not get bombarded by the tours and transfer people inside the airport because they had to social distance from you!

Transfers

Once we got to our Lomas transfers they greeted us with hand sanitizer and even sanitized our bags before loading them into the luxury navigator. Every time we got in a transport we sanitized our hands again.

Upon arrival at the Iberostar hotel, they did ask us to sanitize our shoes and hands before coming in. The check-in process is a little different as they did it in a more open area so people could spread out and take off their mask.

Masks

Every single employee at all resorts and transfers had to wear a mask the entire time unless they were eating.

As a guest, most resorts do not require masks at all, but some require them in the lobby and other indoor areas.

Social distancing

From the airport to every hotel, there was social distancing dots and shields for the check-in. This made it easy to maintain space between guests.

Pools

Almost all of the pool areas have spread their chairs out to accommodate social distancing. While you’re in the pool, the limited capacity makes it easy to spread out. Some resorts have shut down their pool bars and increased waitstaff to the pool areas instead.

Beaches

Beaches are open to resort guests but not to locals. Therefore, there is not a lot of traffic on the beaches making it feel much more open.

Restaurants

All resorts have a max capacity of 30% so some of the resorts, depending on size, have decreased the number of restaurants that they have open each night but are accommodating by offering multiple menus at the open locations. There are also resorts that have elected to keep everything open!

Overall

Our trip was pretty amazing and it was good to see the policies and procedures the resorts were taking for sanitation and social distancing in order for people to start enjoying travel again.
